Outline of activities carried out by NSDIPA

In order to advance the servicing of national spatial data infrastructure, the various departments and agencies need to understand the Geographic Information System, the undertakings of which are being lead by the Cabinet Councillors' Office on Internal Affairs, as well as the developments in Japan and overseas concerning national spatial data. It is also essential to get relevant people working in local governments to understand these issues.

To realize this, the association is involved in various activities that aim to further mutual understanding between the government, local governments, scientific societies, non-government organizations and the general public, and to encourage exchange of information between them.

Working activities

The association collects information from both in and outside Japan on the following topics and provides it to participating organizations. It also provides assistance for the activities of scientific societies.

	1.	Current state of spatial data being serviced by the government and local governments.
	2.	Investigation of the government and business trends concerning spatial data overseas.
	3.	Understanding of the trend, etc., in the most up-to-date technologies through participation in the Open GIS Consortium in the United States.
	4.	Provision of support for the scientific societies such as the Geographic Information System Association activities.

The association undertakes investigation and research concerning what the spatial data infrastructure in Japan should be based on the states of spatial data infrastructure servicing in various countries.

Furthermore, the association is engaged in various activities to widely provide information on spatial data infrastructure being serviced by the government and local governments.

Public relations activities

The association conducts various activities, such as publication of brochures and organization of joint seminars with the government, so that the government, local governments, corporations and the general public will understand that the national spatial data infrastructure is a new information infrastructure.
